Overview

The Semestris browser extension ("Extension") reads content from websites you explicitly whitelist in your Semestris account and sends that content to the Semestris service to identify academic tasks and deadlines. This policy describes exactly what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

1. API Authentication Token

You provide a personal API token in the Extension popup. This token is stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.sync (synced across your signed-in Chrome devices) and is sent to https://www.semestris.com as a Bearer token to authenticate requests. It is never shared with any third party.

2. Page Content

When you visit a website in your whitelist, the Extension extracts the visible text of the page and sends it to https://www.semestris.com/api/agent/extract. This text may include:

  • Assignment titles, due dates, and course names (from Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)
  • Email subject lines and body text (if Gmail or Outlook is in your whitelist)

Page content is used solely to identify tasks and deadlines for your Semestris calendar. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to this functionality.

3. Page URL and Domain

The URL and hostname of the page being processed are sent alongside the page content to identify the data source (e.g., "Canvas" vs. "Gmail"). This is used only for labelling tasks in your calendar.

Data We Do Not Collect

  • Passwords or login credentials
  • Financial or payment information
  • Health or medical information
  • GPS or precise location data
  • Browsing history outside of whitelisted domains
  • Keystrokes, mouse movements, or any activity outside the visited page text

How Data Is Used

All collected data is used exclusively to provide the core feature of the Extension: detecting academic tasks and adding them to your Semestris calendar. Data is processed server-side to extract structured task information and is not sold, transferred, or used for any unrelated purpose.

Data Retention

Page content sent to the extraction API is processed in real time and is not permanently stored by Semestris beyond what is needed to return a response. Authentication tokens are stored only in your local browser storage and can be removed at any time by clearing the token in the Extension popup.

Third Parties

The Extension communicates exclusively with https://www.semestris.com. No data is shared with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-broker services.

Your Rights

  • Remove the Extension at any time via Chrome's extension manager, which deletes all locally stored data
  • Clear your stored token by opening the Extension popup and deleting the token field
  • Contact us to request deletion of any server-side data associated with your account
